WHAT I LEARNT FROM A CLIENT WHO WAS FUN TO WORK WITH

Mr bright is the name of the client. A graduate of mechanical engineering. He is not the least client that have worked with in my little years of experience in the real

estate business since we anticipate to meet many more clients and close many more deals in the future but for sure he was fun to work with.
  • How did i meet Mr bright (the client)
I was doing my internship programme in a reputable real estate company Bassey Ambrose and company. And by then Mr bright was an NYSC Corp member who wants to be comfortable during his service year in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state.

On a good day, Mr bright and two of his NYSC co- corps members coincidentally were brought to our office by an estate agent who had frustrated their effort in search of a 3bedroom flat apartment. They met our lead, estate agency department Esv. Kenneth Ahuronye and made an urgent request of Same apartment with conditions such as good location, good water supply, constant electricity supply and security.

Esv. Kenneth who was quite a busy man handling many clients problems, decided to give me the task to handle. And now I was perplexed, why me!. This is because it was my first field task and I had no experience in it. I am just not the right guy for the task I said to him. Now within me i was thinking how do I do this if given this task?. How do i deliver this task?. Then he said to me. Look David, don't you want to make money for yourselve?. You just have to close many deals to have value, relevance and be recognition in this profession. Give those guys a home!. So i said to myself, i will do it.

[LESSON 1]: Accept your challenge and take a bold step.
  • How did I give Mr bright and his co-nysc Corp members a home?.
This was a more like a tough task for me.I asked myself where do I start from?. Then I think within me and set up a strategy and plan to achieve my goal. What was my strategy?. I decided to contact few local real estate agents and real estate companies within the Uyo metropolis by visit and phone calls which incurred some burden of expenses on me but i was hopeful that the time and money spent will be rewarding.

[LESSON 2]: Develop  strategies and plans towards achieving your goal.
The phone calls and office visit enabled me to have some copies of property listings owned by this local real estate agents and real estate companies to check for what is requested of my client if it is available to let. After thorough checking on property listings, a few 3bedroom flats apartment were available to let and an inspection was done on all of them. After sometime, a 3bedroom flat apartment was selected after which  rent and agency fee were paid and the deal was closed.

Esv.Bassey and Esv. Kenneth who were my bosses at the office were pleased for my effort, hardwork and encouraged me with some little cash to close many more deals like this. I felt good and happy since I was not usually paid salary but rather little allowances as an intern. This made me to understand that this was a good way to be paying myself salary.
I was optimistic, motivated and eager to learn and know more with or without any money given to me as an intern.

[LESSON 3]: Dont always look for money but go for knowledge and passion first.
The story continues.......................
And its been close to a year with a month left. Mr bright and his co-serving Corp members had finished their NYSC service year as everyone moved to various places of resident to take a decision on their life after NYSC service.
Mr bright did not actually moved out of uyo, Akwa Ibom but rather got a new job and lived with his younger brother staying with him.

Two months after, Mr bright called me again and made a request of good, standard and tasteful 3 bedroom flat apartment. And by that same he made the request, i had finished my internship programme and was working as a real estate agent while continuing my education.

Now the deal was a bit easier for me to do this time because i have been exposed and built business relationship with some local real estate agents and real estate companies.

[LESSON 4]: Build and maintain your business relationships and contacts.
Now i made a call and visited some of those real estate companies to check their property listing and see what was available to let. And after few days, we did an inspection to check each of this 3bedroom flat residential properties but non was to the taste and satisfaction of Mr bright my client. But we didnt relent, we continue in property search and inspection for about a month. And during this time, we usually take a break to relax in eateries and take a good meal with a nice wine to step down as breakfast, lunch and dinner. And at the weekend we go clubbing with our girlfriend's to ease the stress and calm our mind. During this moment, we discuss and express  our view and disappointment on each of the 3 bedroom flat had inspected and laugh it off.

Within the period of the property search, I came across another estate agent Phillip. I informed him of what Mr bright needed and he said he has some to show to us. So we conduct another inspection until a choice of 3bedroom apartment was finally made. Rent and agency fee was paid by Mr bright and the deal was closed.

I and agent Phillip shared the agency fee equally which was awesome and tangible. And I made him my business associate after closing many more deals icluding that of Mr bright.

The story had not ended yet................
I and mr bright were still business friends that still keep in touch through whatsapp chat after those previous deals we did.

And close to a year, I received another request of 3bedroom flat apartment from him which was an  urgent one due to the expiration of his current rent which is in 2months time and didn't want stay there anymore. why did he want to relocate rather than renew his rent?. According to him, he was not satisfied with the electric power supply in that neighbourhood. Also he wants to get married and settle down

[LESSON 5]: Gain  your clients trust, and your services will be needed again and again.
Now i got in touch with agent Phillip on the new request and we took up the task. After series of property search and inspection that lasted for a month, we came accross a set of service apartments within a mini housing estate within the Uyo metropolis. This was the first of its kind we had come accross with such high rent as compared to other 3bedroom flat apartment that we have inspected. All fixtures and fittings and other services were intact. And without hesitation, Mr bright paid for the apartment in 2days time and we received our agency fee which was more tangible and the deal was closed.

I and Mr bright are still business friends up till this moment and we look forward to close many more real estate deals.
So I must say it was really fun working with Mr bright.
We hope you enjoyed the post.
